MyCareer – Shock Announcement!

Posted by Dr Glyn Brokensha | October - 12 - 2014 | 0 Comment

gbBrwFairfax Media has announced the end of MyCareer, effective Thursday 16th October.

Yes, MyCareer is dead.  And although the industry has expected something like this to occur eventually, the announcement of MyCareer’s demise came all-in-a-rush and without any prior warning.

There’s absolutely nothing on the MyCareer website but according to their announcement (below), they will transfer current ads to their job aggregator Adzuna when they close for business tomorrow.

What does that mean for me?

Just one thing less to do or to think about!  No need to ask to post ads on Fairfax channels as Exprsss! sends a priority XML feed to Adzuna.  All current and future ads on Expr3ss! will still appear automatically on Adzuna* within an hour or so of going live on Expr3ss!

Although Adzuna are saying they will offer a pay-per-click model for promoting job ads, the benefits of this offering are not at all clear as yet.  We are keeping the situation under close review and, when the time is right, we will offer an integrated service to promote your ads on Adzuna.

What about the future?

This precipitate change is further evidence of the shakeup occurring in how to get your jobs in front of applicants.  It’s symptomatic of the complacent rut into which all the paid job boards sank whilst the aggregators stole a march on them.

Expect more changes as the “Google for jobs” aggregators vie for position.

The Announcement

Important upcoming changes to mycareer.com.au

Earlier this year, Fairfax Media announced a joint venture in Australia with leading international job search engine Adzuna.

What is Adzuna?

Adzuna is now Fairfax’s primary online job listings brand in Australia. It is a vertical search engine which searches hundreds of websites and delivers thousands of current job vacancies on one site. The platform delivers a compelling alternative for recruiters and job seekers and is an innovative step forward in the evolution of the Australian recruitment and job search market.

What does this mean for mycareer.com.au?

From 16 October 2014, the job search and alert functionality provided at mycareer.com.au will be migrated to adzuna.com.au. Adzuna will be Fairfax’s primary online job listings vehicle. This means you will no longer be able to post job listings to mycareer.com.au however you will be able to place job listings on adzuna.com.au via an uploader or by placing a paid casual listing via the Fairfax self-service channel. Any listings that are currently live or posted to mycareer.com.au prior to changes being implemented on 16 October 2014 will be automatically migrated across to adzuna.com.au.
