If I told you about a retail company that processed more than 354,000 unique job applications in 10 years, would you believe me?  What if I told you this same company hired applicants within 10.2 days of their application being made across 225 stores with only one recruitment manager? In an article by Shortlist about how “Automated screening brings top candidates to the fore” they discuss how our customer, Spendless Shoes, “has slashed its recruitment advertising spend by 95% and vastly improved its candidates’ cultural fit since automating its screening and selection process.” Spendless Shoes has been developing its reputation…  Read More

CVs & Resumes contain lies

Four out of five resumes fail the test Resumes are supposed to be an accurate, factual document detailing work history, education and experience.  But research from respected source Risk Advisory Group shows us that four out of every five resumes fail that test: “CV lies continue to pose a problem in recruitment. The Risk Advisory Group’s annual study on ‘CV Lies’ identified that 80 percent of the 5,000 screening cases sampled contained one or more CV discrepancies. The greatest number of CV discrepancies relate to candidates’ academic background (57%) and employment history (59%).” “Eye-gaze” research has shown that recruiters rely…  Read More

Remote Recruitment and Hiring Tips and Strategies

Just how important is “Time-to-Apply”? Talk around the traps is that applicants are unwilling to spend more than a very few minutes on job applications?  But is this true?  New research about Time-to-Apply from Kantrowitz, Tuzinski & Raines of SHL strongly suggests it is not… ” HR staff understand what candidates are looking for … mostly but… … HR respondents tend to be more extreme in the extent to which they believe candidates prefer short, novel, technology-enabled hiring tools, compared to actual candidate preferences.” SHL Global Assessment Trends Report Tracy M. We keep hearing about the war for talent… “Today it’s not just challenging, it’s downright hard and complex,” says Jacob Morgan on Inc.com. In this article published on Harvard Business School’s website, Ed Michaels, Helen Handfield-Jones, and Beth Axelrod – authors of The War for Talent – are quoted as predicting that “the crucial force that will make or break firms in the next two decades will be their ability to attract, develop, and retain managers at all levels.” Clearly hiring talented professionals is more competitive than ever (not to mention the significant costs associated with staff turnover).  Not just…  Read More

As competition for talent reaches an all-time high, the rush to get the best candidates through the door can often overshadow the focus on doing hiring well. Technology providers globally now all claim to offer the solution to balancing speed and insight but, for an industry that has operated in much the same way for decades, accepting that there’s a better way to do things can be a bitter pill to swallow. The disruptors that will get organisations on board with the tools they offer, will be those that lead by example. We asked Expr3ss! founder and managing director, Carolyne Burns, and…  Read More

HR Professionals Lead the Way in Adopting Clever Technology

Australian Human Resource professionals are more forward thinking than most.  Recent research by AHRI [1] showed that not only are dynamic HR professionals unafraid of the future, but they’re actually embracing change and technological advancement rapidly. With 96% of Australian HR professionals reporting that they view technology and AI in particular as their friend rather than their foe, it’s clear that local HR professionals are world leaders. The research indicates that HR professionals don’t simply want to use technology for the sake of it, they are open mainly to tech that improves their processes.  And there is consensus that tech products like…  Read More

Expr3ss! Charity Giving Back

2017 has come and gone. And you may have noticed that we didn’t send you a Christmas card. No ‘happy holiday’ wishes, no ‘festive fun’. Nothing.   Instead, and in typical Expr3ss! style, we did something better: we Christmas Gifted on your behalf. As you probably know by now, it’s an Expr3ss! tradition to put our money where our mouths are by supporting worthy causes every chance we get. So, we scrapped Christmas card sending altogether. While they are lovely to receive, they very quickly get forgotten and blend into everything else at Christmas time. Instead, we like to give the…  Read More

In researching some current data from our database of more than 3 million job applications, we came across some interesting trends regarding Job Aggregators and where applicants find the jobs they are applying for (Applicant Source).  We report our findings here. Most readers would be aware of the profound disruption of the paid job board market by the entry of the Job Aggregators (e.g. Indeed, Adzuna, Glassdoor etc).  These “Google for Jobs” sites function by scanning the whole web for jobs and then “indexing” them, just as Google scans for web pages [1].  Jobs then become searchable, just as web…  Read More
